Not just for Mother's Day: Treat Yourself, plum-bottom

Not just for Mother's Day: Treat Yourself

Mother’s Day is a sentimental holiday that can bring up many emotions. I’m fortunate enough to still have my mother—but not everyone does.  And I know the joys (and challenges) of being a mother—though not everyone gets or wants that opportunity. It’s often a day that I feel slightly let down when my expectations are too high and my children’s ambitions too low. Depending on your personal experience it can be a day that's  joyous, stressful--or both.

Let’s re-brand Mother’s Day this year.  A day free from obligations without being asked to do anything other than to pamper yourself.  Treating yourself to something beautiful, luxurious, and indulgent. You deserve it, so let’s call it YOU Day! So how might we celebrate YOU Day? I’ve got a few suggestions.  You might even bring your mother, daughter, niece, best-friend or neighbor along for the fun and celebrate yourselves, together!

Start your morning in a cozy robe and slippers

Our Camp Hill neighbors at Little Black dress have you covered with their Posh Peanut robes. They are so soft, you might just choose to spend the day inside, wrapped in their embrace. Posh Peanut even make makes matching children’s pj’s in many of their colorful prints.

Throw on a pair of our slippers and you’ve got your new indulgent at home uniform.

Get the day going with fresh coffee or tea and zippy sneakers

All my days begin with coffee from One Good Woman.  I prefer something super dark, like the Professor’s Espresso blend.  But they also have delicious, flavored coffee and decaf. Prefer tea?  They have an entire WALL of the finest black and herbal tea.

Once you’re invigorated, kick-start your day in a pair of cute and comfy sneakers.

Get ready for your adventures with bath products and a handy tote

At Live in Color, our downstairs neighbor, they feature locally made Glitz soap. The natural and fresh smelling soaps, balms and bath bombs are an everyday indulgence.

Go green and pick up a tote bag to stow all the goodies you’ll be picking up today.

Give the girls a lift with a new bra and heels

At Underneath it All, another of our downstairs neighbors, you can finally get that bra fitting that you’ve always wanted but never made time to do. Or embrace your sexy side in slinky lingerie.  They cater to every body type and size. As you strut your stuff, you’ll want to wear heels!

A sexy slide is simple yet stunning, even if you just wear them to sashay around the house, feeling empowered!

Ease into a spa day and sandals

Nothing is more refreshing and appreciated than a spa day. The menu of services at our downstairs neighbor, Moxy Salon, includes custom facial treatments, waxing, microblading and more. The “Mind Relaxer” targeting the face, neck and shoulders will melt all your tension away.

Slip on a pair of Olukai flip-flops because they are so comfortable and easy to slip on and off while enjoying your spa day.

Unwind with decadent chocolates and soft leather loafers

Right around the corner from our store Cocoa Creek Chocolates offers rich and creamy confections.  The day isn’t complete without a bite (or box) of chocolates. I’ve been dairy-free for more than 20 years, and they’ve even got me covered with the most amazing dark chocolate truffles.

Which shoes do you wear while eating truffles? Our Robert Zur loafers melt on your feet, just like your truffles will melt in your mouth.

My unsolicited advice: don’t wait, get yourself your own perfect gift. Take care of yourself mentally, physically, and spiritually. Not just on Mother's Day or YOU Day. Treat yourself with as much respect as you would your own mother. I guarantee you; your mother will be proud of you for taking such loving care of yourself.

Hi Carla,
This was so well done! It made me want to visit every store you mentioned.
It has been way too long since I have seen you and Andrea and the the other gals,
Hoping to get there very soon!
Hugs to all,
